In the pre-Hispanic era, the island was dedicated to Ixchel. In the Mayan mythology, Ixchel (“the fair-skinned one”) was the goddess of fertility, textiles, the moon and medicine, among others. The small temple set on a limestone platform at the southern tip of Isla Mujeres is a vestige of this sanctuary.
Farm where baby turtles are kept until they are big and strong enough to survive. Visitors can learn how to protect vulnerable adult turtles.
It is the most popular beach and you can walk there from the main pier. You can rent snorkeling equipment and kayaks, sunchairs and palapas.

It is a combination of contemporary art and conservation of the environment, including over 500 sculptures made of materials that help coral and marine life development and promote the recovery of natural reefs. It is divided in two galleries: Manchones and Nizuc. Several artists, including Jason deCaires, have submerged their sculptures that are now slowly coming to life.
Created in 2001, this park has a unique location, next to Garrafón. It shows works of Mexican and foreign artists.
According to the locals, Mundaca, a Spanish pirate from the 19th century, sought refuge on the island and fell in love with a local girl known as “La Trigueña” (brunette). He built this property for her, including wells, arches and gardens, but she never loved him back. Today visitors can admire the vestiges of the hacienda.
It enjoys a privileged location, close to the shore. This snorkeling paradise is located on a reef and surrounded by crystal-clear, shallow waters. The Virgen del Farito (Virgin of the Little Lighthouse) was submerged in 1966 and is located nearby.
