Named after biologist Cyrus Lundell, who registered the site of Calakmul in 1931.
Structure II
It is 55 meters high and the second highest Mayan structure in Mexico. Each side of its square base is 140 meters long
Structure I
On the eastern side of the ciy, several stelae were erected on their base by Yuknoom Took´K´awiil in 731.
Introduction Calakmul
Located in the Calakmul Reserve, it is one of the greatest ancient cities in Mesoamerica. It contains 6,750 ancient structures identified, including two acropolises, ballcourts and 117 Stelae. Also jade masks, mural painting and a 1,200 year-old mummified body have been found. Calakmul was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2002.
