Located in the Calakmul Reserve, it is one of the greatest ancient cities in Mesoamerica. It contains 6,750 ancient structures identified, including two acropolises, ballcourts and 117 Stelae. Also jade masks, mural painting and a 1,200 year-old mummified body have been found. Calakmul was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2002. |
